ACL Pictures

Although I cut back on my time spent at ACL this year, I still saw some great shows. So, I thought I'd throw up some pictures ...

ACL

St. Vincent was just added to the bill and Austinist has an interview with Cold War Kids ...

We notice on your recordings that the vocals are mixed high and the instruments are often sparse. Does this change much in a live setting?

It's similar live. I like vocals to be high in the mix. It's less common now. Lots of bands let vocals get washed up by guitars.

You seem pretty committed to the idea of song as story on Robbers and Cowards. Might that change for your next record?

Words are being written on this very day that are relevant to this question. I think that the stories will still be there for album two. There is a song called "Golden Gate Jumpers," and another called "Dreams Old Men Dream," and both are stories.

Here Comes 19th Nervous Breakdown

So I'm sure you've all heard by now, but the White Stripes have pulled out (huh huh) of ACL. The blurb goes ...

"The White Stripes have canceled their Austin City Limits appearances scheduled for this weekend, citing a nervous breakdown on the part of comely drummer Meg White."

Update: Muse has taken over both of their slots (ACL & Stubb's) this weekend. And Muse puts on an incredible live show.

Humpday Bits & Pieces

The ACL Festival daily grids are up on their site.

Thurston Moore has a September 18 release for a solo album on Ecstatic Peace, titled Trees Outside the Academy.

Arcade Fire are combining with LCD Soundsystem for a fall tour. There's only 2 confirmed dates so far: Sept. 17 at Red Rocks in Denver CO (on sale June 23) and Sept. 20 at the Hollywood Bowl (on sale June 30). They are both playing ACL too.
